Hello? Is it me you're looking fur?

Faux Fur

onetwothreefourfive. six. seven.

I debated many titles for this blog post (Viva Fur-ever, Always and Fur-ever and so on and so forth) but I think we can all agree that this one is the coolest, most up-to-date and definitely the cleverest.

Coloured fur has been creeping around for a few seasons now, but I feel like it has now officially become a big deal. I just get a vibe. A coloured fur feeling in the air. I think I first became aware of its charms in my youth, and as with most things in life, all roads lead back to Clueless. Cher's faux fur mini ruck sack ('well at least I didn't skin a collie to make my backpack'...'it's totally faux!), the fluffy pen above, the fur trimmed cardigan. I even had a blue furry filofax (any else?)

Images from Google

Back to 2014 and one can't really talk about coloured fur right now without mentioning Shrimps, the London-based designer who has re-jigged the (faux) fur coat and in my opinion, really kicked this whole new trend off. Shout out to Henry Holland too who always brings the fun, as his SS11 show featured the pom pom earrings above.

I like the playful, youthful edge these pieces give an outfit, especially the monster keyring/phone sock  (I heart Fendi's monster bag charms, but I do wish they weren't real fur). The faux fur sandals are also an absolute dream!

Lastly, I know they aren't fluffy but I had to include those monster nails which are are sooo cute, I saw them on Lily Melrose's beauty blog and fell in love. You are never too old for neon monster nails!

OOTD: Cotton Casuals

Shirt H&M
                              Shorts Tosphop (Similar here)
Boots H&M (Same here but with glitter soles- why did I not see these?)

These boots have been hovering around on the lust list for a while now. I first saw them around in London earlier in the year, but sadly could not afford them at them time so I resisted. I then saw them on Amy's blog and the need for them grew. I spied them in the H&M over here and couldn't resist, so I made them mine. The shirt is another H&M find, I've been a bit obsessed with blue shirts of late, and this one was a bargain at £14.99!

On Friday morning I went paddle boarding at the Riva Beach Club . I had no idea what to expect as it has never really been on my radar, I thought I'd be awful as I tried surfing when I went to Australia and was hopeless. Turns out paddle boarding is nothing like surfing. You just stand on the board and...paddle. Clue's in the name. It's actually very peaceful and serene. There were some jellyfish in the water, which these days just remind me of Finding Nemo.

We paddled from one side of the beach to the other, for about 45 minutes. We went past this absolutely AMAZING house which was white with huge turquoise glass windows, a rooftop pool and turquoise glass staircase. I was gutted that I couldn't take a photo, it was a dream. When we got back we ate breakfast in the cafe. I had french toast with grilled peaches and maple syrup, it was delicious. I also had a wheatgrass shot, I'd heard they taste gross but I rather enjoyed it. It tasted very fresh and green. Like I imagine actual grass would taste.

Not a bad way to spend a morning!

Rock it with Bloomingdale's

So last week I attended a Bloomingdale's Dubai fashion show which was put on to showcase their AW14 trends. It was the first fashion show I've ever attended so I didn't really know what to expect. Turns out the dress code was glam topped with a bit more glam. I did not look glam. I felt very out of place! I should have guessed really, as Dubai is a glam place all around. (I've never said the word glam so much, I feel like I'm writing for Mizz magazine)  I don't think anyone would describe me as glamorous, I prefer artfully dishevelled. Probably without the artfully.

Anyway, the show was cool, I recognised some of the pieces from the AW runways and the outfits were nicely put together. There was an after party but I really just felt like a trampy old troll tbh so we went to Burger Fuel and I stuffed my face instead. Food for the win.

OOTD: Dalmatian

Shirts Zara
Shorts Vintage Levis
Bag Cambridge Satchel Company

These photos are really weirdly coloured, so soz about that- that's what you get when you take them in direct sunlight. It's hard to get away from sunlight over here- it's so HOT,you really do need to take a taxi for every journey longer than about 15 minutes max (hence the ponytail- I just can't cope with my hair down). The sweat pours into my eyes. Good job eyebrows!

Got myself some new garms as I don't know if I mentioned it but I could hardly bring ANYTHING out here! (I wish you could use emoticons on blog posts. They are just so good at emoting). These shoes are  bloody comfy, I barely had to wear them in and they do a good job of smartening up an outfit without having to pop on a heel. Top tip: don't walk across a dusty building site in them or you will get sand-tipped toes as above. Not so chic.

I've started a new job and had some friends come over from London so have been ultra busy this week. We went to Bounce which is basically just a warehouse filled with floor to wall trampolines. It was the most funnest fun ever. The next day I was in paaainnnn from performing multiple rounds of swivel hips. #stillgotit.

Here is a sunset I saw today. Pretty isn't it?

The Shoe Diaries #2: Nike Flex Experience Rn 2

Decided I needed to get my ass to the gym. Seeing as there is a gym in my building there really is no excuse. As I haven't been to the gym in about 4 years, and I don't think you're supposed to run on a treadmill in leopard print skater shoes, my boyfriend treated me to some sparkly new rainbow trainers.

He was lucky enough to have a Maserati to test drive for the weekend so we cruised on down to the Dubai outlet mall in search of some new kicks. I got these at the Nike store for the bargainous sum of about 30 pounds (pound sign still won't work on laptop). Even though they are for exercise purposes and not for looking nice, obvs I still wanted them to look nice. I felt about 14 getting these because I haven't bought actual trainers that look like actual trainers since I was a teenager. Back then they went really well with my Adidas poppers and white sleeveless roll neck. How hideous  sports luxe.

I love the colour combo of these and I feel like I could still wear them out and about such is the fashion these days amongst bloggers and the 'style-set'. I HATE that phrase. But I can't deny that they have influenced me into liking trainers with everyday outfits. That is the power of the blogosphere.(Another horrid phrase).

5 Good Films to watch on Netflix

I hate to sound like a broken record but I hate the non-existent internet! As a result I am writing this post in a cafe (yes I do feel like a cool, freelance journalist- I'm sure everyone else here totes thinks I am). Not having a job=watching a LOT of Netflix (once the job hunting has finished for the day of course!). These are some gems I've discovered along the way.

Frances Ha
This film revolves around a 27 year old living in New York and trying to make it as an dancer. Dull a premise as that may sound, I just fell in love with Frances!  The film is quite hipster-ish as it's shot in black and white and many of the characters are middle class bohemian, arty types. Normally this may put me off, but I think Frances Ha leans on the adorable side of typical-quirky-girl-living-in-New-York. She's so likeable and empathetic that you can't help yourself rooting for her. Her turbulent friendship with best pal Sophie is also sweet and touching, and I like that it's the most important relationship in the film.

Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorfs
A documentary about the high-end department store Bergdorf Goodman's in New York, this film features stories from a number of celebrities, stylists and designers. The anecdotes are funny and interesting, particularly those from Iris Apfel and my new favourite person Betty Halbreich, a hilariously blunt personal shopper who doesn't hold back. Through this documentary I also discovered my appreciation for Linda Fargo, who is one stylish lady.
Bill Cunningham New York
Of course I had heard of Bill Cunningham before I watched this film, but for some reason I imagined he would be really serious and gloomy, I don't know why! I could not be more wrong however. He is the cutest and most cheerful man. At times this documentary almost made me cry, I won't ruin it and tell you why but it's a bit of an emotional rollercoaster! Just a really entertaining film about a sweet and fascinating character. A must, must watch.

Paul Smith: Gentleman Designer
I wanted to go and see the Paul Smith exhibition in London when it was on but missed it so was glad to catch this instead. Again, I had heard of Paul Smith but knew little about him. The documentary is split into three parts as you follow Paul around London, Paris and Tokyo whilst gaining an insight into the man himself , the brand and the influences behind the clothes. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked the womenswear on offer- it was much cooler and edgier than I expected.

The Pixar Story
A behind the scenes look at how Pixar went from a tiny start up company to the giant it is today. I loved watching Waking Sleeping Beauty (sadly not on Netflix anymore) which is in a similar vein as It's a lot of fun to see how your favourite characters came to be- animators are definitely a talented bunch of peeps! Side note: I recently found out about The Pixar Theory, which is the idea that all the Pixar films exist in the same universe and link together. I'm not convinced it exists but it's fascinating that this came out of someone's brain! I love film theories and speculations, like this one about the link between Leonardo Dicaprio's films.

What have you enjoyed recently on Netflix? I'm always looking for good stuff to watch, so hit me up with some recommendations!
